Wherever possible, my teaching is offered in the spirit of Dana, which is an ancient method of sharing love and appreciation between students and teachers that has been kept alive since the time of the Buddha.

Dana is a powerful practice because it asks us to step out of the transaction mindset which dominates modern culture, into a space of generosity. Rather than considering how much we can get for as little as possible, we are invited to truly receive and give back. To enter the flow of love.

After your retreat, meditation or mentoring session with me, I will invite you to reflect on what you received, and what you would like to offer in return.

  • Taking care of each other in this way is deeply respectful and honouring.

  • I respect and honour your current life situation, so that nobody is turned away for financial reasons.

  • You respect and honour what you have received, as well as my time, energy, commitment and experience.

  • You respect and honour the wider community, since your generosity makes it possible for those who have less financial capacity to attend.

  • And we all respect and honour the priceless nature of spiritual teachings.

Dana brings these teachings into everyday life by revealing hidden beliefs around scarcity and inadequacy, exposing the friction between ‘doing the right thing’ and ‘not having enough’. As we relax these beliefs, we discover what generosity, gratitude, appreciation, love and care really feel like in our own hearts and minds, and we extend these gifts into our lives and out into the world.

What a joy!

"Regarding dana. It was a great exercise and I thank you for that. As an economist, I spent the first night reviewing the different theories of value in my head (Smith, Marx, Menger, Polanyi, etc ), carried on with the diamond-water paradox (to realise that what you offer is both as rare as a diamond and as essential to life as water). At first sight this step could be seen as useless. It was however necessary for me to "play" with all the theories to show to myself that depending on the chosen theory and varying assumptions, a price can be placed anywhere between 0 and +∞. It was necessary for me to "think inside all the surface of the box" before being able to attempt to think outside of the box, outside of the system. The "exercise" is difficult because in our system, money has become a "good" in itself (that one can accumulate), rather than just a means to fluidify exchanges. I found it easier to think in "kind" rather than in "cash". What I offered to you is what I can spare after I've paid my (and my kids') bills this month. I've sent it to you and it feels great! Actually I feel lighter... So once again, thank you Ayala. Needless to say that I will sign up asap for next year!" ~ Virginie (economist)
